The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new opening credits. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
