The Merseyside club Will Not Abandon Forward-Thinking Philosophy Amid Current Struggles, Says Head Coach Slot

The Dutch manager has stated that the club's hierarchy agree with his assessment regarding the recent downturn and he has no intention of discarding their attacking style in search of a turnaround. The tactician conceded that six losses in seven games was unacceptable ahead of Aston Villa's visit.

Pressure Mounting Throughout Tough Spell

Slot accepted the expectations were high before his rotated squad exited the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he insisted that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or management structure following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.

"They say similar things," commented Slot, whose squad will encounter the Spanish giants in the European competition and travel to Manchester City in the domestic competition.

Team Strength Continues Unquestioned

The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and completely set for the schedule ahead". He said that the summer investment in players such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, who is expected to be sidelined again against the Birmingham club through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the immediate prospects and the long-term future".

Gelling Difficulties

When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I provide reasons and people say I'm offering alibis. I can list multiple factors why we are struggling for victories or experiencing losses as we do but, as I consistently state, there are never enough excuses to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • Regardless of whether I could identify 200 excuses
  • Leading this club you cannot lose
  • Unfortunately six defeats in seven games

Defensive Statistics

Only the Lancashire club (21) have faced more big chances from open play this season than Slot's team (19). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the defense has been too vulnerable and asserts there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a more pragmatic style after 10 games without a clean sheet.

"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to alter our approach totally but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he declared.

Specific Instances

"When facing United, how many chances did we concede? When playing Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a effort at our net. In each fixture we have competed in we haven't conceded a many opportunities. Not at all. We do allow a bit more than the prior term but that stems from us being behind early so you play more openly. But overall I don't think that our issue is that we allow too many opportunities. Our issue is we fail to convert the chances we create."
