The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is an option. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

Liverpool won the Premier League last season, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach a different club in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. It's plausible.”

“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Questioned regarding what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.

“The locker room isn't missed per se, however, dining out with the team having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear as an instance.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered four in a row across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing a slump.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”

Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. Jota was killed in a car crash with his brother in July.

“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Impossible.”
