'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Await Answers After Ski Resort Fire
The families of young people lost after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an agonising wait for answers and pleading for any details about their family members publicly.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Confirmed images show the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Emergency services have warned that it could take an extended period to identify the those who perished of the disaster, which resulted in the death of 40 people and wounded another scores more. A spokesperson said on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with work continuing to name the other six.
In the waiting period, relatives have been using social media to plead for clues about their friends who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near the city, explained to a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian government has confirmed that six of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, who hailed from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who represented passion and authentic values."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A close friend informed me they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators commented, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great maturity. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her brother has published an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the developments.
