Players of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are speculating about the possibility of a surprising battle involving a corrupted version of the beloved companion. These theories emerged following the studio announced a complimentary significant expansion packed with fresh adversaries and surprises.
What Sparked the Theories?
Newly released artwork appears to show a youthful protagonist riding Esquie advancing on a veiled foe. This image strongly hints that the gentle giant could have a key role in the upcoming content.
Compounding the suspense, cast members such as the performer voicing the character have been recorded laying down new dialogue. In the original game, Esquie was shown as a kind-hearted presence who provided solace and refreshment to expeditioners. Yet, hints suggested a dormant powerful side—even a quote where Esquie stated, “Bad things happen we become angry.”
Fan Reactions and Social Media Clues
On social platforms, fans are enthusiastically discussing the prospect of facing a dark Esquie. One commenter exclaimed, “Time for the true final challenge: Esquie.”
Additionally, the studio changed its avatar to a sinister image of a dark figure bearing a strong similarity to Esquie. Although this might be tied to a Halloween event or community initiative, the crimson gaze and jagged mane render it difficult not to picture a menacing Esquie.

Deeper Lore Possibilities
A number of fans suggest that Clea, the sibling of the protagonists, may have created a evil form of the being during their childhood. According to this theory, she may have used this creation to scare Verso, and currently it might be hunting the group in a particular region of the canvas.
This hypothesis aligns with established story elements, as Clea has before meddled with the canvas, changing figures and orchestrating schemes. Additionally, the return of Clea’s voice actor supports belief that her part will grow in the DLC.
Conclusion
Might these theories be overblown? Perhaps the online image is just seasonal fun, and Esquie will remain his gentle usual self in the upcoming content. But, with so many hints pointing to a darker twist, fans are eagerly anticipating what surprises await in Expedition 33’s latest chapter.
