The final episode of this celebrity edition of the popular reality show was mistakenly made available by overseas distributors before its planned UK broadcast on Thursday night, as confirmed a network statement.

Reports indicate that the finale was watched by a small number of subscribers of the online platform the streaming service in Canada; they could watch it for a couple of hours until it was removed.

The installment being uploaded was not considered a error by the producing network, and a spokesperson for the company asked those who believe they know the result of the series to "refrain from posting potential spoilers".

"We kindly ask anyone who believes they have uncovered the outcome of The Celebrity Traitors to hold any information they have to themselves," the statement read.

"We ask you to refrain from posting potential spoilers so that the millions of fans who have been faithfully following every twist and turn of the show can enjoy the final this evening."

The Celebrity Traitors is presently the most-watched TV program of the current year, with an average of 12.6 million viewers across the first four episodes.

Fans of the series have been eagerly anticipating to see whether deceivers Cat Burns and Alan Carr will win the £100,000 prize for a good cause or whether faithfuls Joe Marler, Nick Mohammed and David Olosuga will be victorious.

A past champion of the third season of The Traitors commented that "everyone dislikes spoilers", which are "joy's enemy".

He mentioned they will be settling in to watch the finale tonight as it airs, with all of his family and "some snacks".

Thursday night's concluding installment is lengthened to 70 minutes on the main channel, with an extended edition of the companion show scheduled to broadcast on BBC Two after the finale.

Host Ed Gamble will be accompanied by the cast and the co-host as they respond to the series conclusion.
